what are you really good at?
i trained as a contemporary dancer for several years, and that developed a relationship with my body that informs how i am as a model today. i actually started out in life modelling, having come from dance gave it this sense of performance that felt bold yet homely. i also draw, and learnt so much about drawing through listening to the tutors in the art classes that i was posing for. i would say that i'm really good at finding the flow between my different creative practices , how my dancing informs my modelling, how my modelling guides my drawing, the drawing becomes or is of the dancing, and then that ends up being a written response or a whole other shoot. i'm good at bringing those elements together
what do you do besides modelling?
i've worked in arts administration, specifically at the intersection of arts and activism for several years, in both london and berlin. this is something that began for me whilst i was a dance student at a conservatoire. i felt compelled to address the institutional practices that caused harm and ostracised marginalised students and this spirit carried on in the work i was doing in administration later
who are your lgbtqia+ role models?
my lgbtqia+ role models... i think firstly it was josephine baker, the original superstar, spy, activist, actor, singer and dancer. i remember reading about her at 14 years old for a homework assignment and was just dazzled by her and her relationships with women. it was so sensational to me at the time, and the many ways in which she utilized her position and visibility to navigate europe as a black woman in the 20s, from the banana skirt act to her work as a spy, i was really moved.
what makes you get out of bed in the morning?
i recently moved into a new home, and each day that i wake up here, i feel myself more settled. the more settled i feel, that ripples out into my interactions throughout the day, i can find ways to hold space for others when i've had the opportunity to do that for myself. so i would say, i'm coming into my sense of self a little more each morning and that gets me out of bed
anything else you want people to know?
i'm an open book, i want to hear about your visions for modelling, moving, writing, illustration, all of it. we can try to bring them out into existence. creativity feeds me, so come through with your wild ideas
